JAWS

Finally made it to the Academy Museum! Brian has been a member for years, but somehow we never managed to get our acts together and go. That all changed thanks to Bruce — or rather, the model sharks known as Bruce that starred in one of the best films of all time, “Jaws.”

The Jaws exhibit at the museum is a delight for fans of the film - immersive sets (nothing like sitting in the cabin of the Orca to watch Quint recount his harrowing tale of waiting for rescue from the sea), fascinating details about production (the use of day-for-night shots and the water-level camera rigs are inspiring), and for those who are being dragged along with no interest in the film, photo ops galore — I especially enjoyed the Zolly shot experience, where you too can be as freaked out by what you see as Brody was, the background falling away behind you as you loom into camera.

Beyond the Jaws exhibit, there are plenty of other well-curated exhibits and lots for film lovers and Hollywood history buffs — we spent a good four hours and could easily go back for more. Hope you get a chance to check it out!

The Amity Island billboard from Jaws, with a happy woman on a floaty in the ocean and a smiling sun, with the text "The Academy Museum Welcomes You!" This is before the shark attack, obviously.

Before the shark shows up, obviously.
